Banana Plants in Keanae

A "must stop" if you are driving to Hana!

The quiet little town of Keanae, is on the way to Hana. This lava peninsula was turned
into a rich farming area where taro has been grown for generations. Only a few people
live there now. There is a stone church there, built in 1856, that survived a killer tsunami
in 1946. It wiped out the rest of the village and killed at least 24 people. The development
of our tsunami warning system came because of the tragedy.

This is a 5 x 7 acrylic painting of one of the roads down there lined with bananas plants.
