Banana Plants in Keanae

A "must stop" if you are driving to Hana!

The quiet little town of Keanae, is on the way to Hana. This lava peninsula was turned
into a rich farming area where taro has been grown for generations. Only a few people
live there now. There is a stone church there, built in 1856, that survived a killer tsunami
in 1946. It wiped out the rest of the village and killed at least 24 people. The development
of our tsunami warning system came because of the tragedy.

This is a 5 x 7 acrylic painting of one of the roads down there lined with bananas plants.

First painting of 2015 - Hana, Maui

So I decided to try the 30 in 30 challenge again...and I am in love with Hana!
So I am painting scenes from Hana, Maui this month.
This is an 8 x 10 acrylic on canvas painting of Makahiku Falls on the Pipiwai Trail out of Oheo Gulch, near Hana.

My abstract paintings

Here are some collages of the abstract work I have been playing with. I am having so
much fun and it is so freeing, not to care what anyone thinks. For me it is just the feel
of the paint rolling off the brush and other tools, and the harmony and contrast
of the colors, shapes and textures.
Can't wait to paint large canvas!
