My abstract paintings

Here are some collages of the abstract work I have been playing with. I am having so
much fun and it is so freeing, not to care what anyone thinks. For me it is just the feel
of the paint rolling off the brush and other tools, and the harmony and contrast
of the colors, shapes and textures.
Can't wait to paint large canvas!

Painting 21 - going more abstract

I am abstracting my art more and more now and am happy with the way it is going. I am striving for a more contemporary, unique style, personalized by the places I am at in my life.

I hope you will follow on my colorful mixed media journey.

"Halama Beach Path" near my cottage in Maui, where I take my dog "Oliver" for his morning walks.

5 x 7 acrylic and oil pastels on canvas. Painting continues around edges.

Painting #15 in 30 in 30 painting challenge "Haycraft Beach, Maui"

5 x 7 Acrylic on canvas panel

Another quiet and secluded beach. Haycraft Beach is on the south end of Ma'alaea. It connects to Ma'alaea Beach and then Sugar Beach. It has a great view of the south coast line and it's a great place to watch whales in the winter time. Oh and the sand is really soft!

Painting # 9 in painting challenge "View of Puu Olai"

This is the view towards Makena from Charley Young Beach in Maui. The round hill is Puu Olai, which is a dormant cinder cone from Haleakala Volcano.

Painting # 8 in painting challenge "Charley Young Beach, Maui"

5 x 7 Acrylic on canvas

Charley Young Beach is just south of Kama'ole Beach. I paddle board around the rocks there with my dog and always see lots of honu (turtles). It's pretty much spectacular any time of day!

Painting # 6 in painting challenge "Kanaha Beach, Maui"

5 x 7 Acrylic on canvas panel

Kanaha Beach is another long stretch of wild coast on the north shore of Maui between Kahului Harbor and Spreckelsville Beach. It is made up of white sand beaches, coastal dunes, wetlands and beach parks. On any given day you will see windsurfers, kitesurfers, surfers, pole fishermen, divers, canoe paddlers, campers and general beach goers. Also a great view of the West Maui Mountains and Iao Valley.

Available at my Etsy shop:

Painting #5 in painting challenge "Sugar Beach"

5 x 7 Acrylic on canvas panel

Sugar Beach also known as Kealia Beach, is said to be the longest beach on Maui. It stretches from North Kihei to Ma'alaea- about 2 1/2 miles. Sometimes I walk parts of it with my dog Oliver. Also have found lots of shells in the winter time there.

Painting # 4 in 30 day challenge "Kaho'olawe Island"

Another painting from Hidden Beach in Maui, Hawaii. This is the view of Kaho'olawe Island. It is the smallest of the 8 main volcanic islands in the Hawaiian Islands and is about 7 miles southwest of Maui. It is now a reserve and being restored after the military used it for target practice for years.

Painting # 3 in 30 in 30 challenge

"Halama Street Sunset"
5 x 7 acrylic on canvas panel

This sunset was from one of the beach access paths a few houses down from my home in Kihei, Maui. There were a handful of people sitting and enjoying it with myself and my dog "Oliver".
Love these sunsets!

30 in 30 painting challenge-painting number 1 "Makena Surf"

I love the contrast of the blue waters against the black lava rocks in Makena! I drive over here a lot since it is close to home and have painted several paintings from the area. This 5 x 7 acrylic on canvas is the first in a 30 day challenge to produce 30 paintings-no problem!

But it was the 4th painting of the day. I started with 3 ACEOs first, then this 5 x 7 acrylic on canvas panel. I really prefer painting on the hard panels because the acrylic paint just glides on. But since I have some canvas panels prepared, I'll use them.
